My name is Tony and I am brand new to the forum, but not meditation. I am enjoying the site immensely. Always the obstacles I face when meditating is trying to stop my mind from racing and thinking. For beginners, is there a word…state of mind…chant…something that can replace the mind with racing and thoughts from invading? Thanks.

Hi Tony,

Welcome to the site! Glad that you are enjoying it.

That is certainly a common obstacle, and one I’m sure many can relate to! However, you will likely find that if you take the time to meditate regularly, your mind will become increasingly quiet over time. When we experience self-realization, the kundalini (spiritual energy within) rises and the energy itself helps to slow down our thoughts.

Along with this, you may find these “tips” useful: try creating for yourself a nice atmosphere for meditation – some calming music, a comfortable space, lighting candles or incense. You could also try to slow your breathing down prior to starting your meditation. It may also help to follow along with the guided meditations from the online class, or to watch a video (follow the Videos link from the homepage). Personally I find that watching a video helps to settle my attention, and following the video I enjoy a more silent and peaceful meditation.

I hope this is helpful. Let us know how you do!

All the best,
