Hello, Myself Shivani from India. I am new to Sahaja Meditation but not very new to meditation itself. Before this, I had taken up courses on Vipassana and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living. It’s a great site and very well structured. I have few reasons to join this website and few questions to ask.

I had been interested in meditation very on and off in life.. but few days back, I elder daughter expired. She was only 2 years old and it was sudden death and this loss in life has created a huge pain in my life and my heart that I am not able to deal with it in any way. I tried to meditate as much as could to help myself come out of this but it’s all in vain. I wish to know if Sahaja meditation can proove to be helpful in dealing with such tough problems in life. Also,I could not get the real meaning of word ‘Sahaja’ on your website. Can you please explain it’s meaning.

Dear Shivani,

My deep condolences of the loss of your girl… Obviously, this still very fresh and it will take some time to heal this wound – it is one of the most difficult things to live with for a mother to loose her child. I personally have not experienced anything so tragic in my life, but I know several people for whom Sahaja yoga meditation helped tremendously to gradually get over significant loses in their lives. This meditation as you might have already found out is based on the awakening of our inner Motherly energy, which is a healing power, and once it is awakened, through our daily meditation it gently heals and gradually balances out all of our problems. Please give it a good chance, and see whether it works for you. As I already said though, please take your time dealing with the loss of your child, because it is a very sad thing, and it will take time.

About “sahaja” – it is a Sanskrt word and means “spontaneous, easy”. This term was used by a number of saints, poets and holy people in several traditions in India, some better know of them being Gnyaneshwara, Kabira and Guru Nanak. It can probably be broken into saha-ja, which you might know better than me, “saha” meaning “with” and “jan” meaning “to be born” – so “sahaja” being that which is already there, at your birth, built in within you, something you get with life, so it is natural, spontaneous and effortless as opposed to something you would achieve through hard work or your own accomplishments.

So, please try out our online course, take your time with it and see whether this kind of meditation can soother you grief even a little. It would be best if you did not mix this meditation with other kinds of meditation, to give it a better chance to work properly.
