Hello from Portugal!

Last December I made a decision about my life: start meditating in 2016.

I had this thought, this inner will, in my mind for a long time, but only now the time has come. So I searched the web looking for something in this area that suits my needs: free of charge, widely spread, several years of grounded knowledge, easy to start with, support group, good online info, a movement founded by someone special… and I found Sahaja Yoga through FreeMeditation.com.

I started my path here by reading most of the available info in english and then I also found online info in portuguese, which was great. By searching online info we can always see different results about Sahaja Yoga, good or not so good. Anyway, to have my own opinion I must have my own experience, right? So I decided to start meditating in the last days of December, 2015.

I began with the Online Course, meditating twice a day and I am now in Class 3.

Let me share this with all of you: the first day I had this Class 3 I really felt my kundalini awakening, including the cold breeze mainly in the fontanel area. Not in my hands for now, though. My hands were warm. I know this is just the beginning. Surely, it’s difficult to explain it by words, but I will try to tell you what I felt then (2 days ago, Jan 11th): right after the Class 3 Self-Realization exercise, suddenly my back turned fully erected (without any conscious effort) and I felt a light inner pressure in the back, neck and head, followed by an inner will to look upwards. Then I remember I was breathing very deeply, both in and out, and very slowly. During that short period of time, I really don’t remember to think of anything else. That possible “Thoughtless Awareness” just took, maybe, 1 or 2 minutes.

Thank you, Shri Mataji and all of the people who turned this Kundalini Awakening experience available to everyone.

I am still in Class 3, doing the same exercises and meditation, but couldn’t repeat until now that same feeling of the first awakening… Maybe it’s normal.

That’s it. Just wanted to share with all of you my first encounter with this “Experiment with Truth” through Sahaja Yoga.

My strong will right now is to continue within Sahaja Yoga and to develop my spiritual path together with all of you.

Thank you all.

Welcome, Sadhak!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it was very nice to read it!

Yes, it often happens that we will have a very intense experience followed by some time with just “normal”, but still joyful experiences, before another amazing thing happens again. And then sometimes we might encounter a rough patch for a few days, but in the end, if we keep at it, the experience grows and changes us from the inside in subtle and eventually visible ways. :) It really is a beautiful process, and it is never boring. :) It might be a good idea to keep a journal and write your experiences down, especially those extraordinary ones, or at least to try to remember them. I’ve been meditating for about ten years now, but I still remember some of those amazing times right at the beginning of that journey, and holding on to them helps me a lot to keep going forward.

Wishing you all the best! :)

Hi Mar’yana

Thank you very much for your kind answer and for sharing a little bit of your experience.

I will keep you posted with my further Experiments with Truth.

Still in Class 3, almost moving on to 4.

I do believe that small steps in the right path can lead us to a joyful experience!

Kind regards,

Carlos

Hi again

Now on Class 4, experiencing some possible kundalini awakening symptoms…

I do feel the cool breeze above the head and I feel now much better during the day, but could you please tell me if joint pain in the hands/fingers and some neck pressure/strain can be a consequence of these initial meditation days (a little more than 20 days, twice a day)? If so, what may be causing it? Can I address this in a near future with some meditation techniques and somehow try to help myself? Maybe still in this Online Course?

Please advise. Thanks for your help.

Hi, Sadhak,

Usually it’s the opposite, people feel more relaxed and less pain/discomfort after meditation if they have some chronic issues with it. So I don’t really know why you would be feeling more tension in the neck. Are you trying too hard to force your energy or your attention when you are meditating? Are you sitting in a position that is uncomfortable for you? Joint pain might be a consequence on the subtle level of the energy getting sort of stale and blocked, but when meditation is good and it works, the energy actually starts flowing better, so these issued should be resolving, not the opposite. Sometimes it happens that as all kinds of obstructions start clearing out from the system, they create a bit of a bottle neck, so that might cause some mild discomfort. That, again, might be a sign that the person is pushing too much, trying to move forward too fast, or trying to force or control the process instead of letting it work out on its own at the right pace.

Have you had a chance to check whether there is a local Sahaja yoga class where you live?

Hi Mar’yana

Thanks for your kind answer.

I really don’t think this is because of “pushing/trying too hard” or “force or control the process”. Just my opinion, though. At least, that’s what I feel about it. I do let go when I sit to meditate. However, I have to say that previously to these new meditation period, I sometimes felt shoulder/neck discomfort or back discomfort just a little above the sacrum area. Until now, and I have done a few medical exams, not a single one pointed out my condition to be something. In fact, I don’t know why I feel like this and also nobody can tell… And it also seems that’s not a question of anxiety or nervous tension. In truth, I didn’t start meditating specifically to overcome these physical issues, but to feel better with myself and to develop my spiritual self. I did thought, though, that I could experience some physical relief, too. Not until now, though.

I want to have my own experience first with this Online Course and then get in touch with Sahaja Yoga Center in Lisbon for further development and sharing.

Let’s see how it goes :-)

In that case, hopefully that strain will be relieved soon :).

Hi Mar’yana

Here I am again :-)

Just wanted to share this with everone.

Doing meditation on a daily basis since Jan, 1st 2016 and right now starting with Class 10.

“Wow… doing the Online Course for almost 6 months?” – you might ask.

Yes, everyday, but not just staying 2-3 days in each Class, of course. I stayed in each Class much longer than that. I do feel it worked better for me like that.

Now I am prepared to finish this Online Course and then get in touch with the local Sahaja Yoga Center in Lisbon.

Any benefits afer 6 months daily meditation?

Sure: Calmness, Peacefulness, Happiness

Sahaja Yoga in really changing me from within :-)

Thank you all

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, and congratulations on completing this stage and moving on to the next one :). It’s good to hear that the course worked for you and that you are feeling the benefits of meditation.

In my experience, with time as challenges grow, so does the capacity to meet them. It is much easier to see and to feel, which things are really important, and which are not so important, and as a result not to get disturbed so much by the unimportant things. It becomes easier to appreciate yourself and others, to forgive and to support. It becomes clearer, what it is that you need to do for yourself at this particular time to remain balanced (or to come back to balance). So the journey is very rewarding, and as much as I myself was at the beginning hesitant about starting to meditate and it took me a while to actually make that decision, I have never regretted it since :).

So, I wish you a good continuation of this journey, and please do contact us via forum post, or private message, if at any point you have a question, or feel confused, or just need some support.

All the best,

Mar’yana
