Five years ago, I experienced what i believe was a kundalini awakening. I had been doing unmonitored kundalini yoga dvds at home, along with reiki healings (giving and receiving). I experienced visions, auditory feedback, sensations, changes in diet and sleep, and other symptoms. I became more creative, and had heightened awareness.
However, this soon led to energy disruptions and chaos, and emotional outbursts, manic elevated mood shifts, and thus a trip to the hospital where i was diagnosed as bipolar and put on medication for psychosis.
Now, five years later, and three episodes later, I am reducing my medication, and have achieved stability mentally. I wish to try out the Sahaja meditation to increase self awareness and recapture the state of the complete and utter love that I expereinced periodically during my “mental breakdown”.
What can i do to ensure the prevention of another “breakdown” or huge uprising that led me to the hospital? How can I do awaken my kundalini energy safely and slowly?

Hello Tracey,
Welcome to the course smile
According to Sahaja Yoga, actually it is not possible for someone to experience extreme emotional/psychological/physical/mental states due to the awakening of the Kundalini. On the contrary, Kundalini awakening brings someone to the centre, away from extremes. You may find this article helpful, on the topic of Kundalini: http://www.onlinemeditation.or…..kundalini/
Here you can also read about the only conditions under which it is dangerous to awaken one’s Kundalini, through wrong methods:

Hope this helps and please post here again if you need help with other questions. smile
