Good Morning, I have been searching for a site that is very detailed for beginners in meditation.  I have been trying for years to meditate and now I am at the right site. I do have a question regarding slowing down my breathing, I get a little stuck there because I am not sure if I am doing it correctly.  embarassed

Dear Addie,

In my experience, the breathing aspect of meditation helps some people, while it distracts the others, and from what you are saying, you might be the second type (I’m like that too). So if it makes you confused, or makes you think more than you were before, or is not helpful in some other way, just ignore that part. Slowing down the breathing consciously is not necessary to achive the state of thoughtless awareness (meditation), and you might notice at some point, that when you are in that state, it will happen automatically on its own.

All things in Sahaja yoga are meant to be tried out/tested, and then used as needed. There is no fixed “recipe” that will work every time, and the guided meditations are meant to be used as a guide, they are supposed to give you a range of things you can try out and then use on your own once you see that they seem to wok for you. And different things will work at different time…
