Hello.  I’m very much looking forward to experimenting with your site.  Thank you so much for such a great resource!

I want to share my story with you.  If you have any insight or if you have experienced similar things, please write back!  There is no one in my life whom I can discuss this with.  I’ve never met anyone else who has had these experiences, and I would really love to have an outside perspective.

Here’s my story.  I started meditating when I was about twelve years old.  I’m not sure how long it took, but after meditating daily for some time I could suddenly feel and control the flow of my energy.  At first, when I just felt it, it felt like waves moving up my body over and over again.  I experimented with slowing the waves down and reversing them and moving them to different parts of my body.  Then, instead of having to “catch” the wave that I felt through meditation, I realized that I could just “squeeze” those points on my body  (chakras).  After that, I no longer needed to meditate to be able to feel my chakras.  I could “contract them” (like squeezing shut a fist) whenever and wherever I wanted to.  It’s almost like moving or flexing a muscle that isn’t used often.

How it feels:  When I “contract” my energy it feels tingly.  The tighter I squeeze at that energy point, the further out from the chakra the tingles go.  If I squeeze really tight I even start to twitch.  I can release instead of contract, but it’s more difficult.

I’m now 26.  I can still feel my chakras, and I can still manipulate my energy, but I have trouble achieving the deep meditation that used to come so easily to me.  I haven’t felt that meditation “wave” of energy in a very long time.  Once, I had a deeply moving and important meditation session.  I was about 19 or 20.  I focused my energy toward my third eye chakra and, after some time, went out into a vast grey void.  At that moment I knew and I felt that I was one with the universe/God.  Everything was this vast greyness, and I could see within it and without it and I was it.

I haven’t been able to achieve anything close to that again, and I’m troubled by this.  It disturbs me that I could have such spiritual experiences once or twice but then not have them occur again.  I lead a very busy, stressful life, and I’m sure that this is my problem.  I am trying to find ways to ballance my life so that I can be happy.  I’ve been ignoring my spiritual needs for too long.

Blessings,

Liz

An update:

I’m going to be working through each class like you’re supposed to, but I went ahead and read all of the knowledge tree sections just to get some infromation on my experiences, first.  I really haven’t read all that much about any of this, and haven’t had any sort of teacher.  The few times I have talked with people who believed in my experiences, they would usually tell me that what I was doing, experimenting with my energy without a guide, could be dangerous or bad for me.  I don’t know.

After having read the knowledge tree sections, here are my thoughts and questions:

-I can do something that feels like pulling my energy up from around my tailbone to the top of my head.  I can then push it back down.  Is this the rising of the kundalini?  Are you supposed to be able to control it like that?  I don’t have to meditate to do any of what I’m describing, anymore.  It’s like moving any other part of my body, and it results in a physical sensation, like a tautness and a tingling.

-I can stop the energy anywhere on its path up, and that’s when it feels like clinching a fist really tight.  The places I can stop the energy line up with the chakra charts.

-When I said before that I could “release” the energy, but that it’s more difficult, I realize now that what I’m doing is pushing the energy back down, but that it’s hard to stop it and hold it at a chakra whenever it’s going down instead of up.  (It does kind of feel like up is slightly on the right side and down is slightly on the left.)

-If I try hard, I can leave that energy alone and instead just feel my chakras.  It’s more difficult, but when I do this it feels more like a pulsing at that center instead of like a wave stopping there.

-I have had someone close to me notice when I do these things near them.  She said that it felt like I was pulling her out of her head and into me.  I’ve since tried it around other people, without them noticing anything.

I haven’t been meditating.  In fact, over the last four years or so, I’ve probably only meditated about twice a year.  I know that I need to be-  I would be happier and more at peace if I were meditating.  I’m going to work on that, and I’m hoping your website will help me out with techniques and developing good habits.

Here are my questions.  If you have any insights or thoughts or similar experiences, I’d love to hear from you.

-Is anything I’m doing dangerous or harmful?

-What else could I do that I haven’t discovered yet?

-Have you experienced any of what I’m talking about?  Or do you know of anything I can read to help inform me?

Hi, Liz!

Some of the things you are describing are a bit puzzling to me, but I will try to answer you based on my experience in Sahaja yoga and my knowledge of it.

Firstly, the movement of energy thought the chakras is a natural process, it is like breathing and heartbeat, it happens spontaneously, it flows on its own. That’s how we experience it. The chakras receive the flow of energy and distribute it within the body, while at the same time they are healed and balanced by that same energy if there are some obstructions in them that prevent the free flow of energy. The chakras and channels also house within themselves the divine principles that guide all aspects of our life, so they are to be treated with utmost respect and even awe, and not frivolously.

Now, from what you are saying, it seems like you are trying to force the energy by your will, which in turn constricts the chakras (preventing the natural flow), and gives you an increasing tingling sensation, which is the warning from your chakras and the divine principles in them, that you are over-stepping the boundaries of what is to be done. Please do not do this, do not force this process, instead, let your energy awaken and work on your system at her own pace and with her own natural flow.

What you can do is to start over with our online course, and see whether your energy can awaken and start working on its own without you interfering. You can support your energy best through the meditation (throughtless awareness), for that is the state through which balance is achieved, and you let your own energy do what She has to do without agressing Her. When you start meditating regularly, you will be able to feel yourself what is benefitial to you and what is harmful. In the meantime, whatever constricts the chakras and gives you incleasing tingling sensations – harms your system, avoid doing it. Once you feel the cool breeze of your energy on your hands, and sense out the joy and satisfaction through the thoughtless awareness that comes along with your energy flowing freely through your system, you will know that you have found what you were looking for.

Sincerely,

Mar’yana

Mar’yana,

Thank you so much for your reply.  What you say makes sense, and I will be thinking about it very hard.  I had been thinking, all this time, that maybe there was some way to direct the energy to wherever I need healing, that holding it in that place would help it, but I see what you mean about that being a blocking of the overall flow.  It’s difficult for me not to do this, as it is physically pleasurable and has been a comfort to me since I discovered the feeling.  I do it countless times a day, just as I might open and close my palm.  If this isn’t good for me, then I have a difficult habit to break!

I will be going through the classes and doing some research into all of this.  I’ll attempt to stop until I’m better informed.  It’s hard to stop something that doesn’t feel bad, but I’ll try.

Thanks again for your insight,

Liz

Dear Liz,

Yes, the habits are sometimes very difficult to break, but still possible, and easier with Sahaja yoga than without. Perhaps it will help if you try to talk to your own Kundalini energy and to listen to Her. Many of us have developed a sort of relationship with our own energy, and we know that it helps Her (and as a result also us) if we express out respect, gratitude, and desire for Her to be strong, and for us to listen to Her, and to follow Her, because she is our Mother. When we start feeling Her flow through the palms of our hands, we can feel Her respond to what we say, and it becomes easier to respect Her in Her own right, and not take Her for granted.

In the end, of course, it is up to you, you have the freedom to shoose a path and stick to it, or to abandon it and go a different way, it all depends on what you desire and on what is important for you in your life. We have chose this path, because it gave us the joy and peace and a sense of being connected and finally finding truth, which we could not find anywhere else. So it feels right, and we stick to it. smile

Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

Sincerely,

Mar’yana
